U8s v. Wetherby Whinmoor Under 8s carried on the good work from last week, playing some excellent passing football against a well drilled and rather serious (especially the coach!) Wetherby. The team are really working well as a team now, they're great to watch at times! Whinmoor enjoyed 3 victories, 2-0, 1-0, and 4-0, and a 2-2 draw. M O M's were Bradley, Nathan, Archie and Leon.
U9s v. Wigton Moor Our under 9s found it so tough against Wigton Moor that both Whinmoor keepers walked off with Man of the Match awards! A 5-1 defeat and 2-0 defeat didn't quite tell the story as we were 4 nil down after 5 mins and on the other game we were close to a point. A 4-2 & 3 nil defeat followed. Really enjoyed it and some great lessons for us to learn from. Well done kids.
U13s v. Ripon City Panthers Our u13s endured a 70 mile round trip for a 10a.m. kick off at Ripon today. Whinmoor were unlucky to go down 3-1, including a goal line clearance which apparently counts as a goal these days. We scored a great team goal we hit crossbar twice and had 2 good calls for pens turned down. Very unlucky today lads - you all played well!
U14s. v. Knaresborough Celtic The u14s played away at table toppers Knaresborough Celtic in a cracking game of 2 halves! The league leaders won the first half with plenty of help from the man in the middle, however it was the 2nd half performance from Whinmoor which proved they can compete with the very top teams on their day! Everyone deserves a mention today starting from Matty in goal pulling out some wonderful saves; Charlie,Max,Keenan,Conner across the back who stood firm and battled throughout. Lucas,Dan,Josh,Jack,Reece and Sam bossed the middle setting up the counter attack for Liam who ran his socks off from the first whistle. A second half clean sheet topped a superb display, Liam cooly took his goal over the inpressive keeper, who also saved a penalty for the home side. Couldn't be more proud of the team today. Even when it got tough they stood up to be counted. Keenan just nipped in and grabbed the MOTM after a 2 month injury lay off! Welcome back!
U17s v. Pannal Sports Our under 17s endured some hilarious refereeing in their 6-0 defeat against top-flight opponents Pannal Sports today. A defensive lapse led to the opener, but a blatant handball, and a player scoring whilst standing clearly five yards offside meant that Whinmoor trailed by three at the interval, but our boys outworked and outfought Pannal in the second half, and the score remained the same until the last seven minutes. Connor Robinson deserves high praise for his tireless performance, and 'keeper James Neale for making a fantastic penalty save.
