Crouz (3)

We traveled north to Burley Trojans on a glorious sunny day. But we didn't get the start we wanted, eventually going down 5 - 3.
Crouz put us ahead after 4 mins, but Burley fought back and reached half-time 2 - 1 up.
The second half was the same, Whinmoor couldn't take advantage of their pressure and could not find the net no matter how hard we tried.
Burley took advantage and were soon up by 3. Burley spent a lot of time in our half with only stand in goalkeeper Cameron Cooper to beat. He made it hard for them by pulling off some great saves , Crouz got back 2 more, but we gave away a penalty with 10 mins to go and then an home goal sealed our fate. Josh Ross Gave 100% on the wing. Some good work from whinmoor, but a we have a lot more to do if we are to finish in the top 3. (Posted - 6/9/09 GB)

League Crouz (4), Carty (2), Musonda (2), Whittaker

Our visitors Knaresborough Celtic Greens went away disappointed. Carty opened the scoring on 4, then came back 10 minutes later to bag his second. Whinmoor were dominant with some good passing and great work in midfield paid off.
Musonda and Whitaker both got 1 each up to the break, putting us up by 4 up to the break.
Second half belonged to Crouz, who put 4 past the Knaresborough keeper. Great efforts from Douglas and Whitaker went close, but Musonda came back on the hour after having been denied a penalty. A brilliant goal-line clearance from Guy denied Knaresborough the chance to get on the score sheet.
Rothera denied them every chance with some great goal keeping to keep a clean sheet. A good win for Whinmoor. (Posted - 13/9/09 GB)

Carty (4), Crouz (5), Douglas, Musonda, Woldegebreal

Carty opened the scoring after 3 minutes against Otley Town, followed soon after with a second. Woldegebreal got one on the 16th minute.
Otley were dominated by Whinmoor in the first half, but a lapse in concentration from Whinmoor saw Otley scrape one back. Crouz wasn't
happy with that and got one back just before half time.

Whinmoor came out stronger in the second half. Crouz made it look easy by getting 2 in the first 18 seconds. Musonda and Douglas followed with 1 each.

Great skill from Whinmoor, only to be denied 3 from Crouz for questionable off sides. Whinmoor didn't sit back and a great effort from Carty again, saw him strike the back of the net. The last 2 goals came from Crouz, taking the final score to 12 - 1 to Whinmoor.

A very impressive display from Whinmoor who, have not yet reached their full potential. (Posted - 20/9/09 GB)

League Cup Carty, Crouz

A disappointing day for Whinmoor, but Wigton Moor Utd played well. Whinmoor matched them all the way, until Wigton scored two quick goals on the half hour. Whinmoor struggled to get back into the game, and eventually conceded again on the whistle.
Whinmoor started the second half on fire, with Carty scored 3 minutes in, then Crouz bringing it to 3-2 6 minutes into the half, but without subs, and after working hard, the tiredness started to creep in, Whinmoor started to tire and could not match Wigtons organisation, and the visitors scored 4 more before the end. Credit must be given to Whinmoor, and especially goalkeeper Rothera who made some great saves against top-flight Wigton.(Posted - 27/9/09 GB)

Carty

A disappointed Whinmoor came home after this narrow defeat against Pannal Sports Panthers. In the first 25 minutes there was some great football from both sides, but a uncharacteristic defensive error allowed Pannal to go into the break ahead.

The second half saw a stronger Whinmoor, and 2 minutes in Carty struck to score his 8th of the season. This sparked the home side into life, and despite a number of great saves from Rothera, and a superb goal-line clearance from Bird, Pannal managed to edge ahead 20 minutes from the end. Whinmoor then fought for the remaining 20 minutes, but couldn't find the equaliser. (Posted - 11/10/09 GB)

Carty (3), Douglas

Whinmoor went to Harrogate Railway Braves with 10 men and got off to a great start with Carty netting after only 93 seconds. The Braves equalised on 33
minutes, but a mistake let Carty in again, making the most of the opportunity and making the score 2-1 to Whinmoor at the break.

It only took 40 seconds of the second half for Carty to complete his hat-trick, and with great play from Whinmoor, by now confortably on top, Douglas extended the lead after 64 minutes, but the first half had taken its toll , and playing up hill Whinmoor tired quickly. Rothera looked at his best in goal, with some great saves. The Braves took advantage of this situation, and came at Whinmoor with all guns blazing and broke the spirits of the defence, scoring 4 goals in quick succession, totally turning the game around. With 10 mins left, the Whinmoor tank was empty, bu they still hung on making the final score 5-4 to the Braves. A great performance today from Whinmoor.

Nidd came to visit us today, we got off to a good start with Carty scoring after 3 mins, only for Nidd to equalise on 9 mins. Douglas got one putting us into the lead again, but Nidd soon came back. New boy Tanveer got his first , but again Nidd came back to make it 3-3 at half time.
In the second half, Whinmoor let some good chances slip by, but with only 9 players their fight was in vain. Rothera was kept busy and played well in goal, but Nidd took every opportunity and soared into the lead taking the final score to 8-3.

League Taylor, Douglas (2), Sutherland, Whitaker

Our first game in 2 months saw a new look Whinmoor take on Harrogate Railway Braves, who came today with ideas of completed the double. They started off looking like that was the way it was going to go, and after 17 minutes, Whinmoor found themselves 3 goals down. Luck was with the visitors as Farrar agonisingly hit the crossbar twice, but new signing Taylor pulled one back with a debut goal after 20 minutes.

In the second half, Whinmoor dominated their visitors. Douglas scored after 13 minutes, and then Sutherland equalised, another player marking his debut with a goal. Seconds later Douglas got his second - the game having been totally turned around inside two minutes. Whinmoor continued to dominate, and their possession finally told when Whitaker rounded off the scoring just before the end. A great way to get back to winning ways, and the new look side gelled together well.

With the fixture moved to Collingham due to a waterlogged pitch, we went to collingham with high hopes. Whinmoor got off to a good start with some great passes and excellent work from the back four, who defended well and made it hard for Collingham. The team play eventually payed off with Douglas bagging the first of the game after 27 minutes, unfortunately Collingham came back into the game to make it 1-1just before the break. The second half saw some great football, with both sides missing some good chances, until Sutherland limped off with a pulled hamstring. That left Whinmoor with 9 players, wo worked their socks off. Even so, a crucial mistake gave Collingham the chance they were waiting for to pinch a winner with 12 minutes left. Whinmoor went close in the time remaining, but couldn't find the equaliser.

League Goodman (Pen), Douglas

Leeds Maccabi came today who we always have a good game with, and today was no exception, with great play from both sides.
Whinmoor played with 10 men throughout and Maccabi took the advantage of this and made it hard for us. Whinmoor fought hard throughout the first half, with Rothera making a string of excellent saves, but he was powerless to stop Maccabi taking the lead after 22 minutes. The visitors then bagged another making the score 2-0 at the break.
The second half saw Whinmoor the stronger side, with some excellent play. Maccabi got themselves into a panic and gave us a penalty which Goodman powered through the back of the net. Whinmoor worked well together but had 2 goals disallowed with questionable offsides, but didn't give up and Douglas equalised in the 31st minute. Maccabi then kicked off straight into our area and took advantage of a sleeping Whinmoor to edge ahead. With seconds to go there was no way back for Whinmoor, leaving the final score as 3-2 to Maccabi.

Top of the league and 11 points clear, Burley Trojans came to Whinmoor , and got a real fright. It was a very even game, and Whinmoor deservedly took the lead after an handball in the, and Danny Goodman made no mistake as he fired it past the goalkeeper on the half-hour. Burley equalised almost immediately, and went into the break level.
Whinmoor pushed the league leaders back, spending the first ten minutes of the half deep in Burley territory, but they couldn't make the pressure count.
Burley then forced their way back into the game, and with their first clear chance of the half took the lead, despite benefitting from a generous offside decision. Rothera was his usual brilliant self, and made some great saves. As Whinmor threw more players forward in search of the equaliser they deserved, Burley broke away and nicked another one to give the scoreline a very unfair slant. Whinmoor should be proud of the way they made Burley work for their three points. (Posted - 14/3/10 GB)

The visitors Collingham went away disappointed after a hard fought game which could have gone either way.

The constant rain made the playing surface slow and heavy, but this did not stop Whinmoor testing the opposition goal on 4 or 5 occasions in the first half. The 0-0 half time score was disappointing as Whinmoor had played some great football to keep the ball moving up the field.

9 minutes into the second half Whitaker put Whinmoor onto the score sheet with a deserved goal. On 52 minutes a controversial decision brought the visitors back in the game at 1-1. This led to a lapse in concentration from Whinmoor bringing Collingham back in the game and giving them a renewed passion which saw them dominating the Whinmoor half giving them a second goal on 58 minutes. On a counter attack Jordan Carty finished his goal drought with a deserved equaliser and after some hard fought play in midfield a break from Danny Goodman down the left saw a great individual goal as he took the opportunity to shoot from the edge of the box and bend the ball into the back of the net. Collingham spent the last few minutes in the Whinmoor half and only the superb and consistent Jack Rothera in goal kept the visitors out. Whinmoor came away with a great 3 points made possible by 'Man of the Match' Jack Rothera. (Posted - 20/3/10 IG)

Killinghall Nomads maintained their 100% record, and full credit is due to them as they played well. They opened the scoring after 9 minutes on home turf, and shortly after, they were 3 up. Whinmoor looked strong with chances going high and wide, Farrar managed 1 after a good run which took us 3/1 down
at the break.
The second half again saw a strong Killinghall, with Rothera making some great saves to deny them. Whinmoor managed 2 quick goals from Carty and
looked dangerous against Killinghall, and this seemed to spring the hosts into life, they were 9 - 3 up with minutes to go. Whinmoor continued to work hard, but knew that their battle was lost. (Posted - 21/3/10 GB)

Farrar, Tinashe

Away today at Leeds Maccabi, it was a mostly even game, with Maccabi just having the edge. Maccabi opened the scoring after 10 min's. Then as they did 3 weeks ago, they caught us off guard 60 seconds later to make it 2-0. Farrar got one back for Whinmoor, smashing the ball into the back of the net taking it to 2-1 Maccabi.
Second half saw Tinashe get a deserved equaliser for Whinmoor, but yet again Maccabi managed to get themselves back in front. There was to be no more goals.
A hard fought battle with both teams having plenty of shots on goal, with Jack Rothera again making some great saves and looking good between the sticks. Man of the match Sutherland worked well and made a big contribution to the game.
Unlucky Whinmoor went home with pride. (Posted - 28/3/10 GB)

League

A sunny day saw Whinmoor play host to Pannal Sports Panthers on the first of their 2 weekend games.

Whinmoor started at a disadvantage with only 10 players due to injury and they faced a 16 man Pannal squad. This did not stop Whinmoor attacking from the start and spending the first five minutes dominating the midfield before a lapse of concentration put Pannal through to make it 1-0 to the visitors. Chances came and went as Whinmoor persistently charged into the Pannal half. Farrar, Douglas, Whitaker, Tinashe and Carty all came within shooting distance but could not get that final conection. It was dissapointing to see Whinmoor end the half 3 goals down when every member of the team had worked so hard and dominated well in their own areas.

The second half saw Whinmoor again play most of the game in the Pannal half but the work rate took its toll and the constant fresh legs of the Panthers broke through and, after some great saves from Rothera, managed to make the final score 4-0 to the visitors.

Whilst all the team played well one man stood out by winning all his takles and making some excellent clearances, and the man of the match award deservedly went to Stelios Rizos. (Posted - 18/4/10 IG)

For the second of their two games this weekend, Whinmoor went to Knaresborough Celtic Greens, and with the defeat of Saturday, Whinmoor wanted a win - and were determined not to come home without it!
Whinmoor dominated the game from the off, with Carty getting the first 20 minutes in, before double his and Whinmoor tally soon afterwards. Both Farrar and Magwenjere, both eager to find the back of the net, went close, before Knaresborough finally had a chance but it was going to take something special to get past the in-form Rothera. Almost inevitably, just before the break Douglas placed one deftly past the keeper after some great tackling.

In the second half, Whinmoor spent most of the time in Knaresboroughs territory, and Carty managed to notch another, completing his hat trick.
Unlucky Knaresborough put up a brave fight, but were outcclassed by Whinmoor, who saw the game out as 4-0 winners. An excellent performance from Whinmoor! (Posted - 18/4/10 GB)

Killinghall Nomads made the Friday night trip for the first of our 2 games this weekend, full of confidence after their 9-3 win the last time these two teams met. Whinmoor started strongly, a saw a few chances go wide. A very fast start, it was a matter who was going to score first, and unfortunately it was to be Killinghall after 5 minutes. Whinmoor were straight back at them, fighting hard for an equaliser, but couldn't find the target. There was great defending from Rizos, who seemed to be at the end of every ball. Showing great determination, Whinmoor equalised, when Carty found the net in the 25th minute.
In the second half, Whinmoor turned up the gas another notch, giving their best performance of the season against 2nd place Killinghall who despite defending a 100% record, were out classed by the hard working Whinmoor lads. Meadowcroft got a split lip from an high boot but was eager to get back into the fray after treatment. Whinmoor were unlucky not to get a winner, and at the other end, Killinghall caused one or two worries with their efforts, but couldn't get past Rothera, who (yet again!) was outstanding. The Killinghall manager made a point of congratulating Whinmoor on being better team by far, and we couldn't help but agree, as Whinmoor looked superb today! (Posted - 24/4/10 GB)

League Carty (2), Whitaker, Magwenjere, Douglas, Sutherland

Whinmoors last game of the season saw Otley come looking for points, but a determined Whinmoor were never going to let that happen. Jordan Carty opened the scoring after 9 minutes. The second came from Whitaker after a great effort. Otley put up a brave fight, with and made some chances of their own, but the break came with Whinmoor holding a 2-0 lead.
In the second half Whinmoor dropped a gear, which gave Otley the chance to pull one back, but this was only a consolation. Whinmoor woke up after this and were soon back in top gear. Douglas and Magwenjere managed 1 each, Carty got another and Sutherland scored a cracking goal, taking the final score to 6-1. A great close to the campaign. A special thanks goes to those who have been there and supported us in all weather.
