12th September 2010 Whinmoor Juniors

Guiseley Blues
3
League Whitaker (2), Carty, Goodman
Ahmed (3)

The visitors Guiseley could not believe it when Goodman gave Whinmoor the lead after 3 mins with a cracking goal from just outside the centre circle. Whinmoor then went on to dominate the first half with plenty of shots on goal. With temperatures in the seventies Whinmoor started to feel the presure and let one slip past after 25 minutes. Rothera made some great saves and denied Guiseley more than once. Whinmoor then stepped up a gear but the score remained level at the break.

Whinmoor took a while to get going in second half, and by the time they did, they found themselves 3-1 down, conceding two quick goals on 7 and 8 mins. That spurred Whinmoor into life, and Carty pulled one back. Whinmoor were by now playing all the football, and Whitaker scored twice, once on 57 minutes, and then again 6 minutes later, to turn the scoreline completely around. The game then became wide open, with Whinmoor going very close, whilst Goodman made a brilliant clearance off the line at the other, which clinched the defender the man of the match award. A superb performance from Whinmoor, and a well earned 3 points. (Posted - 12/9/10 GB)

Harrogate Railway
2
League Gartland (2), Douglas (2)

First round of the cup and Whinmoor played with the determination to win. Gartland opened for Whinmoor on 14 minutes, followed by Douglas, who worked and fought for every ball on the wing.. Whinmoor were denied any more the first half, not for want of trying.
In the second half Whinmoor sat back and let Harrogate play, a mistake from Rothera saw the visitors get one back, which saw the vistors find another gear. Gartland was eager and soon found the back of the net for a second time, but Harrogate followed it again making it 3-2. More great efforts from Gartland, Whitaker and David, but it was left for Douglas to get the final goal of the day, making the final score 4-2. Another great display from Whinmoor, and well deserved win. . (Posted - 20/9/10 GB)

Whinmoor Juniors

League Cup Conlen, Fairhurst, Pennock, Simister
Douglas

The home side Pannal Sports took the lead in this cup game after 10mins. Whinmoor fought hard but could not hold Pannal out, and although Whinmoor had chances, they could not find the net. To add insult to injury, Pannal got another just before the break.
In the second period, Whinmoor were strong, so it was against the run of play when Pannal scored their third. The game turned scrappy after some poor refereeing decisions, and after Douglas pulled 1 back Sutherland had a what appeared to be a perfectly good goal chalked off. Tempers flared further as Whinmoor were victims of more bad decisions. Great efforts from Douglas, Sutherland and Gartland only to be denied. Final score 4-1 Pannel, a good effort from Whinmoor, but an undeserved cup exit. (Posted - 26/9/10 GB)

10th October 2010 Harrogate Railway Braves

Whinmoor Juniors

League Dodsworth, Sanpher, Wright
Sutherland

Whinmoor went to Harrogate Railway Braves with a positive outlook. There were chances for both sides in the lively first half, but no goals, in a very even game in which Whinmoor were unable to take the initiative. The second half should have belonged to Whinmoor, having spent a lot of time in theRailway area, but Harrogate came through a slow start to get going made it 1-0 on 64. Harrogate soon followed with another which livened things up a little. Sutherland pulled a great goal back on 70, but Whinmoor failed to make the most of this watched Harrogate get 1 more before the final whistle. A disappointing performance from Whinmoor, who will have to find their pace if they are going to make an impact in this league.. (Posted - 10/10/10 GB)

Black Prince Trophy Farrar, Gartland, Carty

Wortley Whites visited us in the Black Prince Cup and what a performance from Whinmoor. Great passing and good efforts saw us take the lead first half with a great goal from Farrar, followed by a great strike from Gartland. Wortley managed to pull one back before the break. In the second half, Whinmoor let Wortley level the score at 2 each. This made us sit up and take control again, great efforts from Gartland and Taylor, whilst at the other end there were some great saves from Rothera, who continued to deny Wortley. It took Carty to net the winner, taking the final score 3-2. A good performance from all. (Posted - 17/10/10 GB)

League Abad, Clulow, Paxton
Carty, Goodman, Kay

Our first game in 3 weeks saw us away to Otley, and a goal down after 15 mins, Kay got an equeliser after 20 mins. Great efforts followed by Bird and Sutherland , and Rothera was on form making some great saves.
We got off to a poor start Second half when Otley scored 2mins in. Great play from both teams, Carty got a break and almost finished, but a fowl from the goal keeper saw Goodman make it 2/2. Sutherland made a full pitch run, but could not find the back of the net. Carty finally got the goal he deserved only for Otley to get the equaliser, making the final score 3/3 A great game for both teams and we look forward to the re match next week when Otley visit us.(Posted - 7/11/10 GB)

League Carty (4), Douglas, Kay (3), Whitaker
Abad

Whinmoor were looking forward to the return game against Otley at home after a 3/3 draw last week. Otley came with high hopes but, were outplayed from the start.
Douglas put us in the lead after 13 mins. Otley deserve credit for their fight and spirit, but it was to much, as we made great passes and some good runs from Gartland and sutherland. We stopped play at 11am for 2mins silence, and were 4 up whith goals from Kay ,Carty and whitaker taking us to 5/0 first half.
Second half saw Otley pull one back which, we made easy for them. But this was to be Carty and Kays half with Kay bagging 2 more which gave him his first hat trick, and Carty put away 3 more making 4 in all. A great performance from Whinmoor.(Posted - 15/11/10 GB)

Yorkshire Amateurs
12
Black Price Trophy Kay

Whinmoor faced a good Yorkshire Amateurs side at home in the Black Prince Cup and were 1 down in the first 2 mins. Having started with 10 players We played a good 20 mins but went down hill from then on. Whinmoor played some good football, Gartland fought for every ball and took advantage of most of them. Good defending from Guy Neal and Sutherland, but to no avail. The visitors were on good form and were 5 up at half time.
Second half we still were no match to the visitors, Rothera was constantly put to the test and made the best performance of the season making some great saves, but we could not stop the visitors fro another 7 . Kay managed to keep our heads high by pulling 1 back just before the final whistle. (Posted - 22/11/10 GB)

Our first game since November saw us away to Maccabi. We went expecting to win, but from the first whistle every thing seemed to be against us.
Playing into the wind, we were 1 down after 2 mins. We tried hard against the wind and even big kickers like sutherland was not getting very far.
Maccabi used this to their advantage and by the break were 4 up. Second half a tired Whinmoor played well, the wind had dropped in Maccabis favour so they were still putting the pressure on. Whinmoor fought and had some great chances go wide. Goodman missed a pen after been brought down in the box. Still with great passing and tackleing whinmoor deserved something and got nothing. Whinmoor just cant find their form lately. A visit from Pannal Panthers left us disappointed again. With great chances going wide, and credit to their keeper,we just could not finish. Half time saw us 2 down.
Second half was a repeat of the first, with us getting the breaks and getting nothing. Taylor played his best with some great shots and passing.
Second half, Panthers planted 2 more , Sutherland managed to pull 1 back from a great run , and a fantastic strike before the final whistle.
A disappointed whinmoor.

League Farrar, Gartland, Kay, Taylor, Whitaker
Havercroft (2), Sanpher (2), Dodsworth

Again Whinmoor struggled in the early stages and ended up 1 down after 10 min's against a good Harogate railway.
It wasn't long before railway were 3 up, but we fought back. Taylor scored on 19 followed by Farrar . Great strikes from Gartland and Kay went astray, but Kay was rewarded with a great goal, only for railway to pull 1 back before the break.
Second half was impressive on both sides. Rothera was on great form with some acrobatic saves. Railway were to get 1 more before Whinmoor came back with great passing, and the hard work payed off as Gartland got a much deserved goal, and whittaker sent 1 flying into the back of the net, with a great left foot shot earning us a point from a tough game. 5/5 draw

Wigton Moor Ath
4
League Farrar, King
Sond (2), Harrison, Spencer

U15s played hosts to league leaders Wigton and faced an epic task as both 1st and reserve keepers where not available to play.
The game started well with both teams fighting for control of the midfield and Wigton where the first to gain control and a through ball saw their first goal on 13 minutes. Whinmoor fought back and against the run of play Wigtons 2nd came on 19 minutes. This inspired Whinmoor who spent the rest of the half sat deep in the Wigton half and the hard work paid off when a great strike from outside the box from Farrar flew into the top corner on 36 minutes. Wigton pulled another back on 40 minutes to make 1/2 time 3-1. The second half was all Whinmoor with Gartland, Bird and Douglas controling the midfield and 8 minutes in King struck for whinmoor making it 3-2. The game continued to be a battle and the defending of Guy, Meadowcroft, Whitaker and Goodman put up a solid wall giving the midfield the confidence to take control. The game was looking to be a draw before Wigton changed keepers and he managed to stop shot after shot. a lucky break let Wigton through on 36 minutes to see the final goal. $-2 was a flattering score with Whinmoor seeing most of the play but not capitalising on the finish. Danny Bird a deserved man of the Match. (Posted -6/02/11 IG)

27th February 2011 Guiseley Blues
3
Whinmoor Juniors
6
League Ahmed, Bell, Hill
Kay (5) , Carty

U15s got back to winning ways with a visit to Guiseley.
The team where in high spirits and fought hard from the kick off and the first goal came on 6 minutes when Kay got a through ball to slot in the back of the net. Kay again got the goal on 12 minutes and following a great cross from Douglas, Kay hit a great header to get his hat trick on 19 minutes, before getting his 4 th on 24 minutes. The confidence of a 4 goal lead led to some complacency and Guiseley started to take control and where rewarded with a penalty on 35 minutes. Guiseley continued to press and Whinmoor were relieved to hear the half time whistle.
The second half, again saw Guiseley fighting but Whinmoor again hit the back of the net with a goal from Carty 11 minutes in. Continued pressure let Guiseley get a goal on 22 minutes. The game was hard battle and Sutherland and Douglas were being treated for cuts on the touch line when Guiseley got their 3rd. Whinmoor rallied and Kay stepped up and hit his 5th on 40 minutes which put the game to 6-3 Whinmoor. The team would like to dedicate this win to Ray Taylor who his currently in hospital awaiting a serious heart operation.. (Posted -3/03/11 IG)

6th March 2011 Whinmoor Juniors

Leeds Maccabi

League Kay (2) , Carty, Douglas

Today saw the last home game of the season when Whinmoor played local rivals Maccabi. As derbys go this was no different and the tackles where flying in hard and fast from the start. Whinmoor took the early advantage when Kay broke through to hit the net on 8 minutes. Whinmoor continued to keep the pressure on and Carty got Whinmoors 2nd on 18 minutes. The 2-0 score line upset Maccabi and they began to throw everything at us 'boots n all' resulting in Guy being carried off on 25 minutes after he was taken down for the second time in the half but this time not being able to recover. The bad temper saw Maccabi win a penalty which went wide but Whinmoor carried on playing great football and Kay got his 2nd goal on 35 minutes and provided the cross to connect to Douglas's head on 37 minutes giving a half time score of 4 - 0 Whinmoor.
The second half started how the first ended with hard battles to gain control which also saw players from both sides being warned by the referee. A lapse in judgement by the back for let Maccabi get their first goal on 15minutes and on 18 minutes got their second. Maccabi got a controversial third on 22 minutes but this just made Whinmoor more determined not to lose this lead and the final score finished at 4-3 to Whinmoor. James Neal was super sub continually coming on in different positions and deservedly getting the man of the match medal. (Posted -9/03/11 IG)

13th March 2011 Pannal Sports Panthers

Whinmoor Juniors
2
League McNicholas
Kay, Gartland

Whinmoor hosted Pannal Sports Panthers in the run up to the end of the season. Both teams started strongly and within 10 minutes both sides had chances on goal. The game continued to be end to end with both keepers making spectacular saves including one from the back of his head by Rothera. The first half finished 0-0 which was a fair result. The second hard started as the first with both teams fighting to take control. Pannal where having more runs at the goal but a solid performance from Sutherland, Meadowcroft , Whitaker and Guy kept breaking the attacks down and Whinmoor where powerful on the break. On the 22 minute mark Kay picked up a great through ball from Gartland and put Whinmoor 1-0 up. Pannal continued to play positive football and got a deserved equaliser on 36 minutes. Whinmoor where then put under pressure and the defenders where called upon to battle to keep control and Douglas was superb down the wing with great crosses and fine defending to support the back four. In extra time a great run and pass from Douglas saw Kay see his shot parried away by the keeper but Gartland stepped forward to fire it back into the net on 42 minutes. The final whistle came soon after and a game which would have been a fair draw saw Whinmoor take another three points. man of the match Aidan Guy.(Posted -3/03/11 IG)

Whinmoor Juniors

League Todd (3), Crampton (2), Denton
Douglas, Carty, Kay (2)

Our last game of the season saw us away to Nidd Utd.
Nidd wanted the win as much as we did, and were soon in front with a great corner after 3 mins, then we panicked shortly after and a O G from Neale. We knew we had to get back into the game, Douglas was their when needed to bring us back, and Carty was never going to miss a chance to bring it back to 2-2.
Nidd were strong, we had our chances but missed the opportunity's, then everything went in Nidds favour. Another O G from Guy, gave Nidd the upper hand and they managed 5 more before the break.
We started the second half well with kay getting us 1 back . Great football from both sides who, were equally fighting for points. Kay managed 1 more to end the scoring.
Whinmoor the stronger side second half left it too late to put in the final push. Finishing 7 -4 down.
Great football from both sides..(Posted -24/03/11GB)
